"Honoring Bravery and Legacy: A Family's Journey of Love and Loss on Memorial Day"

This article discusses the story of the Wong family, an Air Force family from Colorado Springs, and reflects on the meaning of Memorial Day for them. The family lost their father, Air Force Major Dom Wong, in 2019 after a 5-year battle with colon cancer. Here we can see the bravery of Major Wong and how his legacy of love has impacted his family.

Lynn Wong, Major Wong's widow, describes how her husband was diagnosed with cancer in 2014, shortly after their second child was born. Despite initial treatment and celebrating a year with no evidence of disease, the cancer returned in 2016. Major Wong was diagnosed with peritoneal carcinomatosis, cancer on the lining of his abdomen. Despite the devastating news, he remained positive and prepared his family for his impending passing, assuring them that they would be okay.

Their seven-year-old son, Collin Wong, who bravely stood next to his father's casket in 2019, singing "You Raise Me Up" as a tribute. Collin has since gained attention for his singing and frequently performs in front of crowds. His sister, Juliana, finds solace in dance. These extracurricular activities are made possible with the assistance of Angels of America's Fallen, a Colorado Springs-based organization that supports children of fallen military and first responders.

Lynn Wong praises her late husband's bravery, emphasizing that he lived, thrived, and fought for his own life, fully aware that he wouldn't survive. The family's strength and resilience are attributed to his example. Very soon there is coming an upcoming event, the 5th Annual Angel Run at Red Leg Brewing Company, which benefits Angels of America's Fallen and provides an opportunity for others to support children of fallen military and first responders.
