Halle Bailey plays the character Nettie, while Fantasia Barrino takes on the role of Celie, a character she previously portrayed in the original Broadway show.
The trailer features the main cast, including Taraji P. Henson, H.E.R, Colman Domingo, Phylicia Pearl Mpasi, Corey Hawkins, and Danielle Brooks, who reprises her Tony-nominated role as Sofia.
The movie, described as a "bold new take on the beloved classic," follows the lives and struggles of Black women in the South during the early 1900s.
Produced by Oprah Winfrey, who also starred in the original film, and Steven Spielberg, the movie is directed by Blitz Bazawule. "The Color Purple" is set to be released in theaters on Christmas Day.
