Police officers in Portugal have initiated a search near a reservoir as part of an ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
Led by German police, the operation aims to gather evidence connecting her disappearance to Christian Brueckner, a 45-year-old German national who was named a formal suspect by Portuguese prosecutors in 2022.
The reservoir, called the Arade dam, is located approximately 31 miles (50 km) from Praia da Luz, where Madeleine went missing 16 years ago. Sniffer dogs were deployed to search the reservoir's banks, and an inflatable boat was used to explore the water.
Divers and officers from Portugal, Germany, and the UK were involved in the operation. German state prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters stated that there are reasons to believe that evidence could be found in the reservoir but did not disclose specific information about the clues prompting the search.
